WHAT WE DO

WHO WE ARE

HOME

At Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church we believe...

...that God is love (1 John 4:8)

Jesus taught that the greatest commandment is “Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength; and love your neighbor as yourself.”

At Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church we strive to create sacred space where all may know God’s love and learn how better to love in return.

...that we are one body in Christ (Romans 12:5)

God’s love has been fully and finally revealed through the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, God’s Son and anointed savior (Christ or Messiah).  Jesus Christ is the only Lord of the church, which is called to be the body of Christ serving in the world today.  Jesus Christ alone is head of the body of the church.

Because we are the body of Christ, we are also called to witness to Christ and show him to those we meet.  We can best do this through the ministry of service to our community.

..that we are commanded to love one another (John 15:12)

There is a song that says, “And they’ll know we are Christians by our love.”  As we are known by our love for our neighbors, they may also come to know the love of God in Jesus Christ and find within themselves a desire to know more about Jesus.  As they grow in knowledge of him, they will also come to know the salvation he brings and how the salvation of Jesus Christ will change their lives now and forever.

...that we serve God with our minds (Romans 7:25)

God gave us hearts and souls to love and feel—and also minds to think.  We are not afraid to ask questions, nor afraid of the questions that may be asked of us.  We do not have all the answers:  as it says in the Bible, “In this life we only know a small part of God’s plan…” (1 Corinthians 13:12, paraphrased).

As we gather for worship, prayer, fellowship and study, we learn how to deal faithfully with the questions, even if final answers sometimes elude us.

...that we are to show hospitality to strangers (Hebrews 13:2)

Jesus spent a lot of time with folks who were not welcomed in “polite” society; he was often criticized for eating with “sinners”; he broke numerous social taboos by coming into physical contact with the “unclean.”

Jesus knew better than anyone that God created all persons in God’s own image.  Jesus’ ministry of healing both body and soul was all about restoring and revealing the image of God in those whom he touched—to themselves and to others.

Every person, regardless of their condition in life, is a child of God, created in God’s own image—fully human and entitled to a full measure of dignity and worth.  Our church seeks to be a community where anyone can experience just how valuable they are to God.  We are human and therefore imperfect and prone to sin, so we call on the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen us in our resolve to welcome into our fellowship everyone who seeks after the Lord so that they might experience God’s love and grace and find salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ.

...the good news of Jesus Christ (Mark 1:1)

  We do not “save souls.”

  God does.

It is our job to proclaim the good news (“gospel”) that by God’s grace (God’s freely given favor) through faith in Jesus Christ, your salvation is assured, your sins will be forgiven, and you will be set free to love and serve God with your whole being, to love and serve your neighbor, and to love yourself.
